Frequently Asked Questions about our Vehicle Transport Services
1. How long does it take?
Transit time depends on where your vehicle is shipping from and to. For instance, transit time from Chicago to Los Angeles is approximately 5 to 10 days, where as Los Angeles to New York City can take approximately 10 to 14 days. All pickup times, transport times, and dates quoted are simply averages. Each load is different depending on the individual auto shipping and car transport truck's schedule.
2. How should I prepare my vehicle for transport?
Secure or remove any loose parts or specialty items such as ground effects, spoilers, fog lights, or wide mirrors, and lower or remove the antenna if possible. Repair or seal any tears or open seams on convertible tops to prevent fast-moving air from causing further damage. Make sure the radiator has adequate levels of fresh antifreeze. Be sure that the battery is secure, has no leaks, and that the fluid levels are low enough to accommodate expansion. Leave only about 1/4 tank of gas in the vehicle, as a full tank of gasoline adds a lot of costly weight to the transport. Deactivate or disconnect anti-theft devices. There can be serious problems and unnecessary expenses if the driver is locked out or if the alarm goes off during the auto shipping process or the car transport. And finally, make sure that your vehicle is clean enough to ensure an accurate pickup inspection.
Please very slightly open one window to relieve pressure due to temperature and elevation changes. This will allow for your vehicle(s) to breath and protect window(s) from blowing out because of the temperature and pressure changes during transport
3. Can I put items in the car?
Auto Express does not authorize personal belongings in the vehicle. If you choose to put items in your vehicle it is completely at your own risk. No more than 150 pounds of soft goods such as pillows or blankets in the trunk only.
4. Do I have to be present when you pick-up or deliver my vehicle?
Yes, we require you, or a designated person, be present upon pick up of your vehicle. A contract 'bill of lading' will be signed with you at the origination point. If you are not able to be there, please call our office prior to the pick up date, to confirm an alternate 'in care of' person. However, if there any changes to the pick up, or delivery address after you have placed your order, there may be an additional charge.
5. Can I drop off or pick-up my vehicle at a terminal?
Yes, we do have terminals within most major cities. Prior arrangement is required, and there may be an additional fee for this service.
6. How will I know when Auto Express is coming to pick-up or deliver my vehicle?
To arrange a convenient pick-up, or delivery time, you will receive a telephone call 12 to 24 hrs. in advance. This call will inform you of the general time you can expect the transport driver to arrive. If the transport driver's schedule changes, they will call you to provide an updated time for pick-up, or delivery. Please don't take time off work unless the driver requests. The truck driver will arrange pickup around your schedule.
7. What is Door-To-Door Service?
Door-to-Door means the auto shipping or car transport driver will get as close to your door as he can legally and safely get. Many cities have restrictions on large trucks that prohibit them from driving into some residential areas. Transport trucks are enormous and need lots of room to maneuver and turn around, so if access to your home is restricted by narrow streets, low-hanging trees, speed bumps or tight turns, the driver may ask that you meet the truck at a large parking lot nearby such as a grocery store.
8. How do I pay?
Your deposit or prepayment must be received in our office along with a signed Shipping Order before your order can be processed and scheduled for transport. All deposits and prepayments must be in the form of Credit Cards or Western Union wire transfer. Personal checks are not accepted. Upon delivery, the driver will ONLY accept CASH as final COD payment. If you are interested in using a credit card to send your deposit or prepayment, please call our office for further instructions.
9. How far in advance will I need to book my transport?
We would like to have at least 1 week prior notice to your shipment.
